    Fort AP Hill is located in the heart of Caroline county, Virginia approximately 86 miles from Washington DC. There are several towns located in Caroline County and most of them are small historic communities. The towns of Bowling Green, Port Royal and Fredericksburg are some of the wonderful communities located close to AP Hill. Bowling Green Green, VA has rich history dating back to the civil war and is located close to Jamestown and Yorkstown. Bowling Green offers lots of shopping and an excellent school system.     Fort A.P. Hill is one of the largest military installations in the United States Army and is located near Bowling Green, Virginia. Bowling Green Virginia is one of the most historic communities in Virginia and is located right in the heart of Caroline County, VA. Fort AP Hill is named to honor Lt. General Ambrose Powell Hill and is a year-round training facility that is used to "sharpen the military's combat edge". There are more than 100 firing ranges at Fort A.P. Hill that are used for live-fire exercises. All branches of the Armed Forces train at A.P. Hill, including U.S. Allies. Other government agencies that train at the facility include the Departments of State and Interior and federal, state and local security and law enforcement agencies. Fort A.P. Hill encompasses over 76,000 acres of land and is located approximately 90 minutes from Washington D.C.
